Halloween, Skulls, Jericho and Mortality

Most of us have picture albums filled with photographs that bring back loving memories! While looking through bums aged pages, at the black and white photos of my Great Grand-dad, I can remember stroller rides and even the pleasant aroma of the cherry tobacco, that used to waft up from his pipe.

My Great Grandfather bless his soul, passed away long ago. If your like me, you probably also have photos of loved ones who have passed away. When you look at these pictures do sweet memories of days gone by flood back into your mind? Can you remember the pleasant times that you shared? Is it almost as if they were still alive?

Most of us don't realize it, but these images also prompt deeper subconscious emotions, that revolve around the theme of mortality and death. As uncomfortable as it may be, we are surrounded by these kind of images. From news cast to Hollywood horror movies, we're exposed to images that remind us that one day, we will indeed cease to be!

At no other time of the year is this more true, than on the eve of Halloween, when people dress up in deathly costumes and decorate their house and garden with skeletons, sculls and other scary things.

When you think of sculls what comes to mind? Are you reminded of graveyards, head hunters, shrunken heads or perhaps the skull and crossbones of pirate flags? Most likely, you probably wouldn't think of the Bible! However, in 1950's, Cambridge archeologist stumbled across an amazing find that is indeed biblical.

They were working at the site of the ancient city of Jericho, which you may recall from the Old Testament book of Joshua. Just as they were packing up their gear, they saw something protruding from an area dated to around 9000 years ago. The startling discovery that they made, was a human skull that was like non other.

It was no ordinary skull, for it had been reconstructed with plaster. An artist had reconstructed its nose and entire face and used very valuable cowry shell's for its eyes. The skull had also been squared off at the base so that it could have sat upright.

What made the discovery even more unique was that this skull was not found in a burial grounds. It positioned on the shelf of one of Jericho's ancient residences. They didn't just find one of these sculls, with further excavation, they went on to find eight more.

The archeologist were puzzled! What in the world were these used skull for? What did they mean? Why would someone living 9000 years ago in Jericho, decorate their home with a reconstructed skull? The only plausible explanation that they could come up with, was that the these sculls represented a type of portraiture, similar to our pictures of deceased relatives.

Some psychologist believe that the images of our loved ones who have passed away, may offer a form of comfort and help us accept the reality of our own mortality.

Want to celebrate Halloween Jesus'?

Scripture says nothing of Halloween, but the principles in which we are a better judge, we should celebrate this holiday, or if we can make all celebrate. As Christians, we must always be careful in our choices and will take time in prayer and reflection to decide whether something is right for us.

Jesus would listen to music? Yes, I believe that Jesus, listening to music. We know that has nothing to hateful, blasphemous to hear the italics,violent, defamatory, racist, evil, occult, or anything offensive.

Hate what is evil, cling to what is good. (Romans 12:9)

Jesus would watch TV? I think Jesus would have a hard time finding something productive on TV have. We have for a fact that can not see Jesus, that something obscene, hateful, racist, cruel, evil, destructive, violent, depressing, misleading, witchcraft, propagandist, or dark and evil, is white.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,Peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5:22)

Jesus would celebrate Halloween? We know that Jesus did not celebrate anything, hateful, blasphemous, dark, angry, violent, fraud, vandalism, bloody, gothic, dark, magic is deception and the occult.

Living as children of light (for the fruit of light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. They have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness,but they share. (Ephesians 5:8-11)

There is nothing evil or hatred on innocent little children dressed in costumes and going door to door for candy? As far as I can, there's nothing wrong with doing a bit more real 'sweet and knock on doors. The damage begins when certain people engage in destructive practices evil and harm others and themselves in the process. Just as Christians can separate the two?

For those of you who can not give up thisHolidays, there are some alternative ways you can celebrate without the dark and evil aspects of this part of holiday celebration. You see, the one who organized the activities of your local church or community. They usually have food, candy, games, apple bobbing, hayrides, square dancing, etc. All these activities are perfectly fine. If you know of an activity, ask, "would Jesus do?" and there you will find the answer.

Finally, do not want God, weto participate in everything that our eyes of him with something and angry and hateful. It 'all about attitude. If we bring in an attitude of righteousness and love then there is no darkness?

So it's a sin to celebrate Halloween? It is a sin to participate in evil. There is no sin to take your children for sweets or a Hayride. Use discretion, what you do. For my family and I have decided not to participate in a system, but this is a personalmoral choice that each individual must decide for themselves.

"God is light, in Him is no darkness at all. When we have fellowship with him yet pretend to walk in darkness, we lie and do not live the truth." (1 Jn 1:5.6).
